‘टाइम्स ऑफ इंडिया’चे प्रसिद्ध छायाचित्रकार शांतनू दास यांच्या कॅमेऱ्यातून आलेली ही बोलकी छायाचित्रे. फोटोग्राफीच्या निमित्ताने त्यांनी भारतभ्रमण केले असून, देशातील अनेक भागांत त्यांनी आतापर्यंत शेकडो छायाचित्रे टिपली आहेत. त्यांच्या अनेक छायाचित्रांना विविध पुरस्कारांनी गौरविण्यात आले आहे. अशीच काही निवडक पाच छायाचित्रे माझ्या ब्लॉग वाचकांसाठी….

काही छायाचित्रे खूप बोलकी असतात. हा फोटोही तसाच आहे. या फोटोवर काही सांगण्यापेक्षा हा फोटोच खूप काही सांगून जातो. नवरात्रोत्सवात एका दुर्गा मंडळातर्फे सुरू असलेल्या आरतीवेळी टिपलेले हे छायाचित्र. दुर्गामूर्तीचे प्रतिबिंब तेथील समईच्या तेलात पडलेय आणि एक चिमुकली हात जोडून आरतीत सहभागी झालीय. देव चराचरात आहे. शांतनू दास यांनी नेमकी हेच टिपले. शांतनू दास यांनी अनेक बोलकी छायाचित्रे टिपली आहेत. त्यापैकीच हे एक.
इंद्रवज्र

शांतनू दास यांनी इंद्रधनुष्याची अनेक बोलकी छायाचित्रे टिपली आहेत. मात्र असा गोलाकार इंद्रधनुष्य फार कमी वेळा दृष्टीस पडते. रिमझिम पाऊस पडल्यानंतर इंद्रधनुष्याचे हे सुरेख छायाचित्र. हा नजारा मंगोलियाच्या त्सोंजिन बोल्डोग येथे पाहायला मिळाला. त्याच वेळी एक महिला अश्वावरून सैरसपाटा करीत होती. केवळ इंद्रधनुष्याचा नजाराच नाही, तर या महिलेचीही छबी टिपताना छायाचित्रकाराने सुरेख टायमिंग साधला आहे. त्यामुळे हे छायाचित्र अधिक देखणे आणि बोलके झाले आहे. जो संपूर्ण गोलाकार इंद्रधनुष्य आपल्याला दिसतो त्याला इंद्रधनुष्याला इंद्रवज्र असं म्हणतात. हा इंद्रवज्र क्वचितच पाहायला मिळतो. असा इंद्रवज्र नाशिकमध्ये 6 ऑक्टोबर 2019 रोजी प्रथमच पाहायला मिळाला होता. अर्धगोलाकृती इंद्रधनुष्य हा पूर्ण गोलाकृतीच असतो. मात्र, क्षितिजामुळे तो अर्धगोल दिसतो.
लोकसंगीतातील रायझिंग स्टार
He Manganiyar Seduction opens by slowly lighting up a stack of boxes in which 36 musicians play a variety of Indian instruments. The Manganiyar Seduction begins in almost complete darkness- light bulbs faintly illuminate 36 human-sized rectangular boxes on a large four-tier set. Then the sound of a Khamacha, an Indian stringed instrument, breaks the silence. Slowly, lights come up on one of the boxes to reveal the musician sitting cross-legged, dressed in white with an orange turban. Manganiyars, A community of Muslim court musicians whose royal patrons may have disappeared because of circumstances of history, but whose music lives because its practitioners cannot live without it.
शांतनू दास यांच्या कॅमेऱ्याने पारंपरिक कलेची अनेक बोलकी छायाचित्रे टिपली आहेत. हे त्यापैकीच एक. हळूहळू प्रत्येक बॉक्समधील दिवा प्रज्वलित होत जातो, तसतशी एकेक करीत विविध 36 मंगानियार गायकांची छबी उजेडात येते. या प्रत्येक बॉक्समध्ये गायक वाद्य घेऊन बसलेला पाहायला मिळतो. ते गातात अप्रतिमच, पण त्यांची बॉक्समधील छबीही तितकीच देखणी भासते. डोक्यावर फेटा व अंगात पांढऱ्या रंगाच्या पारंपरिक पोशाखातील या गायकांचे प्रकाशात आलेले हे छायाचित्र प्रत्यक्षाहुनि उत्कट भासतेय.
कोण आहे मंगानियार?
राजस्थानमधील हा एक मुस्लिम समाज आहे, ज्यांनी संगीत परंपरा जपली आहे. मंगानियार शास्त्रीय लोकसंगीतासाठी देशात प्रसिद्ध आहेत. हे लोक अक्षरशः संगीत जगतात. संगीताशिवाय ते जगूच शकत नाहीत, इतकं त्यांचे लोकसंगीताशी घनिष्ठ नातं आहे.
वाघोबा कुणामुळे गायब झाले?
WHO LET THE TIGERS OUT? ः Pulikali artists painted as tigers transform the road into a carnival at Thrissur, Kerala. PuliKali also known as Kaduvakali is a colorful recreational folk art from the state of Kerala. It is performed by trained artists to entertain people on the occasion of Onam, an annual harvest festival, celebrated mainly in the Indian state of Kerala. On the fourth day of Onam celebrations (Nalaam Onam), performers painted like tigers and hunters in bright yellow, red, and black dance to the beats of instruments like Udukku and Thakil. Literal meaning of Pulikali is the ‘play of the tigers’ hence the performance revolve around the theme of tiger hunting.The origin of Pulikali dates back to over 200 years, when the King Ramavarma (Sakthan Thampuran) is said to have introduced the folk art. Muslim soldiers of the British Army (Nair Brigade) stationed in Thrissur in the army cantonment area (Pattalam Road) used to celebrate with great fervor. Along with the celebrations, they used to perform the art form decked as tigers with peculiar steps resembling the tiger, then known as ‘Pulikkettikali’ which was immensely enjoyed by the locals. Pulikali in Thrissur is held in memory of this event.
वाघासारखे अंगावर काळेपिवळे पट्टे रंगवत केरळमधील थ्रिसूर येथील पुलीकली कलाकारांनी रस्त्यावर एका पारंपरिक सोहळ्यात आपल्या लोककलेचे प्रदर्शन सादर केले. पुलीकलींना कडुवकली म्हणूनही ओळखले जाते. केरळमध्ये ते आपली कला सादर करतात. विशेषतः ओणम या सणाच्या चौथ्या दिवशी म्हणजे नालम ओणम या दिवशी ते आपली कला सादर करतात. उडक्कू आण थाकील वाद्याच्या तालावर ते नृत्य करतात. वाघाच्या वेशभूषेत आलेल्या या कलाकारांना पाहताना उपहासात्मक एक प्रश्न आपसूक मनी येतो, मानवाच्या विचित्र वागण्यामुळेच वाघ जंगलातून गायब तर नसेल ना झाला..?

As a child, I was very fond of a prehistoric 120-format Agfa click 3 camera owned by my uncle. Every time we went out for a vacation, my uncle used to carry that magic lantern with him. As a little boy, I was never allowed to touch the camera and that only instigated my curiosity about the machine. God knows from where I got the idea that there is someone who lives inside a camera and creates the plants, hills, sunsets and human beings who always smile. Years later and much before I started freelance photography, the myth of a man who lives inside a camera was exposed, but the fantasy and magic that revolves around photography still lingers on… I’m now in the field of photography for the last 20 years and working in The Times of India Group as a Photojournalist.
